Commission invests €233 million in European Climate Projects

On February 22, the Commission announced an investment of over €233 million in twelve new Strategic Projects across Europe under the LIFE programme, supporting the EU’s environmental and climate goals outlined in the European Green Deal.

These projects, spanning Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, and Finland, aim to contribute to their national environmental and climate targets.

Notable initiatives include designating at least 30% of Ireland’s marine territories as Marine Protected Areas, improving air quality in Poland’s Podkarpackie region, enhancing water quality and management in Lithuania, and restoring peatland in Austria.

Additionally, projects like Priodiversity LIFE in Finland and LIFE BIODIVFr in France focus on biodiversity conservation, while ACE LIFE in Finland addresses carbon neutrality by 2035 through emissions reduction in agriculture and transport.

The funding is expected to leverage additional support from various EU sources, national governments, and private sector investments.
