Innovation and Collaboration: Interview with Mikail Jaman

Asia- Pacific Business advisory

Mikail Jaman

Can you introduce yourself?

I am a managing partner of TGS AU Partners, TGS member firm in Indonesia. Our relationship with TGS is almost 10 years now.

Working in auditing/accounting firm sector means we always have to be ahead not only adapt with changes, like regulations & standards, people, geo-politic-economics and today also key factor is the technology.

I keep push myself and my team not only to give the best at our profession but also always find the way to work better. Better in term of quality, completion time I mean faster, efficient but at the same time maintain high quality. That’s why we utilize technology.

We use technology to pursue automation in the our business process, especially in audit, accounting and tax service.

Currently, I work very close with our IT team, auditor and consultant team to build the TGS AU Partners app. It is an App that helps us to manage works, manage people, perform analytical procedure, and keep the quality of the work.

I can say that I am a public accountant with passion in entrepreneurship and innovation.

What is your role at tgs? How can you be useful to other members?

With the changes of governance structure in TGS, where we are now is setting up the regional team to work together with global team. I am honored to accept TGS Asia Pacific leadership position.

It means I will be working close with other TGS Asia Pacific region firms partners with key objective to make more business, referral and innovations, align with our Think Global Sustainability principle and values.

In my view as a firm that is part of the network, we should always keep in our mind that we are not alone or separated with other firm, but we are together as one.

My perspective of TGS success achievement is a collective succeed not one firm succeed.

With this principle we move forward as one team, say that one firm weakness/needs can be support by other firm strengths/solutions and vice versa. That’s where business happens, it’s about demand and supply.

Think TGS as an ecosystem, each firm can take benefit from shifting the work to other and also one firm can do work for other firm.

For example, a firm in a country that struggling with talents (because of employee cost is high), and also have pressure of fee competition, the solution may be is shifting/outsourcing to other TGS firm in the country that can perform the works with lower cost (and in the other side, for the firm that receive work the profit is profitable, sustainable and also give the team chance to do international works and increase staff’s competitiveness).

With TGS quality constant review, the quality won’t become an issue anymore. Because quality is maintained.

Another thing is if we have this principle “we are one team” in our mind, we will always think about opportunity that we can grab together. For example, if we meet clients, we always keep our ears to listen their needs especially in other country, and we think about our TGS colleagues.

In brief what I will do together with TGS president, vice presidents, and global team to identify current situation, needs and challenges to formulate growth strategy in Asia Pacific region. Once growth strategy is identified then we will execute together with TGS colleagues in Asia Pacific.

One thing for sure, I want to be useful to other member for the communication to be active among the member in Asia Pacific. Make more business together.

What is your favorite food?

It’s the most difficult question, because there are many. But I have to pick a few, so my choice will be chicken/beef soup and chicken porridge.
